We woke up and prepared for our next leg of approximately 317 km. Starting at the garage and ending Arnastapi, a small town on the
SNAEFELLSNES PENINSULA GPS POINTS N64° 52' 16.477" W23° 1' 11.711"
Out we ventured heading north toward Reykjavik before taking a turn to skirt the capital and heading into Borgarnes. Borgarnes was founded by the Norseman Skallagrim following the the last request of his father
Kveldulf, who died on the way to Iceland and asked his crew to throw him overboard and tell his son (on another ship) to settle where his body washed up. He did just that founding Borg. He went on to have 2 sons, Thorlof and Egil. So this saga goes on to cover almost 200 yrs of the family and spans from Norway to England, to Iceland it full of intrigue, and magic and fighting. We also toured the Settlement Center of Iceland, an awesome museum that has 2 self guided exhibits, one about the settlement and founding of Iceland, and another focusing on Egil's saga the aforementioned sage of the Skallagrim family. It was hard to get go photo's even though they allow photography but below are few of the pics we took:
